Production of Porous Stainless Steel using the Space Holder Method

Metallic foams and porous materials can be produced by various methods. Among the methods that produce metallic materials, powder metallurgy is a promising method. This study investigates production of stainless steel space holder method in metallurgy. A novel i.e. glycine binder consisting polymethylmethacrylate stearic acid are used. Different amounts added to mixture stainless-steel binder. Subsequently, each cold-pressed at pressure 9-ton m-2. The samples sintered 1050 1150 °C with holding times 30, 60, 90 min. microstructures physical mechanical properties investigated. porosity ranging from 30.8 51.4% successfully fabricated. Results show content sintering parameters influence steel. temperature significantly affects volumetric shrinkage. Volumetric shrinkage decreases as volume fraction increases 30% whereas time min will increase compressive yield strength corresponding elastic modulus ranges 22.9 57.6 MPa 6.3 26.8 GPa, respectively. have potential biomedical applications because their properties, match those human bones.
